Take your time. The point isn't getting somewhere quickly.

Sawyer, Harbert and the Back Roads of Harbor Country
Some of our favorite fall scenery isn't found along a named tourist route at all.
The roads surrounding Sawyer, Harbert and Three Oaks wind through woods, farmland and countryside that feel especially beautiful once the leaves begin changing. Instead of following one strict itinerary, use this part of your drive to wander.
Start around Sawyer or Harbert, head inland and eventually make your way toward Three Oaks. Stop when something catches your attention. Grab coffee. Browse a shop. Find lunch. Then take a different road back.

Red Arrow Highway to St. Joseph
Have a little more time? Keep going north.
Follow Red Arrow Highway from Harbor Country through Bridgman and Stevensville before continuing toward St. Joseph, Michigan. Once you reach St. Joseph, stretch your legs downtown or walk toward the lake before making the drive back south.

Make a Stop at Warren Dunes
A fall color drive gets even better when you occasionally get out of the car.
Near Sawyer, Warren Dunes State Park makes an easy detour from Red Arrow Highway. Instead of experiencing the season through the windshield, spend some time walking among the changing trees or head toward Lake Michigan.
